A new decree from The Vatican is encouraging Catholic priests to start their own blogs and embrace the internet.
This comes ahead of the 44th World Day of Communications. It might come as a surprise, but even the Pope is in favour of using social media.
Pope Benedict XVI is urging priests to use digital media to help spread the Gospel in their communities.
"The development of the new technologies and the larger digital world represents a great resource for humanity as a whole and for every individual, and it can act as a stimulus to encounter and dialogue."
The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word, encourages priests to follow the Pope's lead, who already has a Facebook application, YouTube channel and iPhone app, all accessible via his Pope2You site.
It will be interesting to see the response from the priesthood and the numbers that would embrace the Pope's request.
