Today, video-sharing website YouTube launched their South African YouTube service (http://www.youtube.co.za).
According to Google, “YouTube South Africa makes it even faster and easier for local users to find and view the videos most relevant to them, by tuning search and discovery algorithms such as featured videos and homepage and category spotlights.”
Content uploaded by users in South Africa will show up as ‘browse pages’ on the YouTube South Africa site, creating a new space for the national community and giving South African users the opportunity to increase their exposure.
On Alexa YouTube is ranked as one of the world’s top 5 most visited websites. And YouTube has recently announced that their daily video views exceed 2 billion – with 70% of their traffic coming from outside the United States. They have 450 million users worldwide, and over 24 hours of YouTube content are uploaded every minute.
